瀝青混凝土材料的強(qiáng)度主要表現(xiàn)在兩個方面。一是瀝青與礦粉形成的膠結(jié)料的粘結(jié)力;另一是集料顆粒間的內(nèi)摩阻力和鎖結(jié)力。礦粉細(xì)顆粒(大多小于0.075毫米)的巨大表面積使瀝青材料形成薄膜，從而提高了瀝青材料的粘結(jié)強(qiáng)度和溫度穩(wěn)定性;而鎖結(jié)力則主要在粗集料顆粒之間產(chǎn)生。

選擇瀝青混凝土礦料級配時要兼顧兩者，以達(dá)到加入適量瀝青后混合料能形成密實(shí)、穩(wěn)定、粗糙度適宜、經(jīng)久耐用的路面。配合礦料有多種方法，可以用公式計算，也可以憑經(jīng)驗(yàn)規(guī)定級配范圍。瀝青混凝土材料中的瀝青適宜用量，應(yīng)以試驗(yàn)室試驗(yàn)結(jié)果和工地實(shí)用情況來確定，一般在有關(guān)規(guī)范內(nèi)均列有可資參考的瀝青用量范圍作為試配的指導(dǎo)。

制備工藝

熱拌的瀝青混凝土材料宜在集中地點(diǎn)用機(jī)械拌制。一般選用固定式熱拌廠，在線路較長時宜選用移動式熱拌機(jī)。冷拌的瀝青混凝土材料可以集中拌和，也可就地路拌。

Generally, fixed hot mixing plants are selected, and mobile hot mixing machines should be selected when the line is long. Cold mixed asphalt concrete materials can be mixed in a centralized way or mixed on the road.
在制備工藝上，過去多采用先將砂石料烘干加熱后，再與熱瀝青和冷的礦粉拌和。又發(fā)展一種先用熱瀝青拌好濕集料，然后再加熱拌勻的方法，以消除因集料在加熱和烘干時飛灰。

采用后一種工藝時，要防止殘留在混合料中的水分影響瀝青混凝土使用壽命，好能同時采用瀝青抗剝落劑，以增強(qiáng)抗水能力。
